On Tuesday, the Watson Chapel School District conducted a “topping off” ceremony at the site of the new high school which is under construction.
Among those speaking at the ceremony were State Representative Mike Holcomb, who is a former County Judge and worked for the district for 35 years.
Superintendent Dr. Keith McGee acted as the master of ceremonies and introduced a student, Terrence Warwick, who McGee described as “the voice of the students.”
Current School Board member Alan Frazier followed Warwick and promised to “keep his remarks short.”
Mayor Vivian Flowers abandoned her prepared remarks and said this.
Current State Education Secretary Jacob Oliva praised McGee, the school board and the community for coming together for the new building.
Construction is expected to wrap up around April 2026 with a tentative move-in that summer.
