After being named the acting Pine Bluff Police Chief for the past two weeks, Deputy Chief Shirley Warrior has been promoted to Interim Chief according to a news release from the Mayor’s Office. Former Police Chief Denise Richardson was fired on March 24th by incoming Mayor Vivian Flowers and Warrior was named to the acting post.

Also promoted was Assistant Fire Marshal Randy Compton, replacing the acting chief Earnest Jones. Jones was made the acting chief when longtime Fire Chief Shauwn Howell retired on the same day Richardson was dismissed.

Mayor Flowers said in the release that “both individuals bring decades of dedicated service, leadership and community commitment to their roles.”

The two will be sworn in during tomorrow’s City Council Meeting at 5:30 in the Detective Kevin Collins Center.

Warrior, a graduate of Pine Bluff High School has been with the department since 1990.

Compton also grew up in Pine Bluff, graduating from Watson Chapel in 1984. He has been with the Fire Department for more than 31 years. Compton is a certified fire and explosion investigator.

For both positions, a formal search is being launched. Members of the search committee are Glen Brown, Jr., Vicki Conaway, Tommy Davis, Brenda Gullett, Jeffrey Neal, Lelan Stice and Sheriff Lafayette Woods, Jr. The committee is being chaired by Kymara Seals.
