UAPB Women Hoops Lady Lions Predicted Third in Preseason Poll; Beck and Davenport Earn Preseason Honors

HOUSTON, TX – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s basketball team are a little over a month away from the first tip-off of the season. The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced preseason honors at media day on Tuesday morning.

Coriah Beck was named Preseason First Team All-SWAC, returning as the Lady Lions leading scorer from a season ago. Beck started in all 31 games last season, playing a huge role in UAPB’s run to the SWAC title game. Beck averaged 11.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game last season.

Maori Davenport was selected to the Preseason Second Team All-SWAC, returning as the Lady Lions leading shot blocker averaging 1.6 rejections a game with 45 total blocks a season ago. Davenport saw action in 28 games last season, starting in 12 of those games while also leading the team in field goal percentage, shooting a Lady Lions best in over a decade 60 percent, averaging 8.9 points per game.

The Lady Lions finished with four first place votes, but was predicted to finish third in the conference this upcoming season. The preseason poll selection is the highest prediction in school history in it’s era.
