UAPB Softball: Golden Lions Clinched Weekend Series on the Road Against Grambling St.

GRAMBLING, La. —The UAPB Lady Lions fought back from down 6-4 in the fifth inning to take down the Grambling Tigers 7-6 Saturday.
Sophomore Heidi Price got the win for UAPB. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up six runs, all of them earned, on 10 hits, allowing three walks and striking out two.
At the plate, the Lady Lions were led by senior Amari Broughton, who went 3-for-4 on the day with two doubles, a home run and five RBI. Junior Ariana Gonzalez put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Janai Mathis also chipped in for UAPB, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Lady Lions first put runs on the board in the third inning. UAPB scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Broughton.
The Tigers broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fourth inning, when the Lady Lions got back on the scoreboard. UAPB pushed across a run on Broughton’s two-out RBI double, which evened the score at 4-4.
Grambling broke that tie and grabbed a 6-4 lead moving into the sixth, when UAPB grabbed the advantage at 7-6. The score remained 7-6 for the rest of the game, as UAPB held on for the win.

GRAMBLING, La. —Junior Lyric Perry collected four RBIs to help power the UAPB Lady Lions over the Grambling Tigers 6-4 on Saturday.
Junior Traelen Humphrey got the win for UAPB. The right-hander went 3.2 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.
Perry went 1-for-3 with a home run in addition to her four RBIs for the Lady Lions. Freshman Allyncia King compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-3 with two doubles. Senior Amari Broughton also contributed for UAPB, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Lions got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Freshman Angelina Rivas came across to score the lone run of the inning for UAPB and get them on the board.
The Lady Lions then held the Tigers scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. UAPB got a grand slam from Perry to score all four of their runs in the inning, which brought the Lady Lions lead to 5-0.
Grambling narrowed UAPB’s lead to 5-2 before the Lady Lions stretched the advantage to 6-2 in the seventh inning. The Lady Lions added a run on senior Kaitlyn Neely one-out RBI double. Grambling put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but UAPB still held on for the 6-4 win.
