UAPB Golf: Golden Lions Men’s Golf Finishes Second at SWAC Championship, All Five Golfers Place in Top-15
BIRMINGHAM, AL – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) men’s golf team capped off a strong season with a runner-up finish at the 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship, held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley.
Despite narrowly missing out on a championship three-peat, the Golden Lions delivered an impressive team effort, finishing second overall with a score of +22 over par (299, 303, 284 = 886) under the leadership of five-time Coach of the Year Roger Totten.
All five UAPB golfers finished inside the top 15 of the individual leaderboard—an extraordinary feat that highlights the program’s depth and consistency.
Individual Performances:
- Jose Berenguel (So.): 2nd place overall | +1 (72, 75, 70 = 217)
- Timur Alalin (So.): T-10th | +11 (74, 80, 73 = 227)
- Juan Melida (Fr.): T-10th | +11 (74, 80, 73 = 227)
- Jules De Reu (So.): T-15th | +12 (82, 75, 71 = 228)
- Jonathan Baumann (Fr.): T-15th | +12 (78, 80, 70 = 228)
Berenguel’s performance earned him First-Team All-SWAC honors, while Alalin and Melida were named to the Second-Team All-SWAC, underscoring the team’s strong showing throughout the season.
Season Highlights:
The Golden Lions cemented their place among the nation’s top HBCU programs, winning three invitational tournaments and finishing in the top two on three separate occasions this season.
UAPB will continue its postseason journey at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship (formerly National Minority Championship), taking place May 5-7 at at the Straights and Irish Courses at world-renowned Whistling Straights Sawgrass in Kohler, Wisconsin.
