HOUSTON, Texas – The Golden Lions came to swing — and they left Houston with the broom in hand.
UAPB exploded for 20 hits and 19 runs to cap off a wild weekend, completing the road sweep with a 19-14 slugfest win over Texas Southern on Sunday afternoon at MacGregor Park.
The offense wasted no time igniting, hanging six runs in the second inning and following it up with seven more in the third. Jesus Riera kicked things off with a solo homer in his first at-bat of the game, while Brant Voth added fuel to the fire with a 3-run bomb later in the third. Voth finished with three hits, three RBI, and three runs scored in a career day.
Gavin Terry was electric at the top of the lineup, going 3-for-5 with six RBI, including a momentum-shifting bases-clearing triple in the fifth. Jesus Riera also delivered with a 5-hit performance, while Eli Gries-Smith contributed two hits, three RBI, and two stolen bases.
The bullpen pieced it together across nine innings with Nate Monceaux closing it down to lock in the win. Despite Texas Southern’s late push, UAPB held steady and showed resilience at every turn.
The Golden Lions shut out the Tigers in game one 4-0 and took game two 11-8 in 10 innings.
With the victory, the Golden Lions improve to 6-6 in SWAC play, sending a clear message: don’t count them out. The bats are hot, the energy is high, and UAPB Baseball is starting to roll.
