During the court appearance, Deputy Prosecutor Brittaney Akel read an affidavit by Detective Sgt. Keith Banks to explain the allegation.

Banks reported that when Ventress was questioned, he admitted pushing the victim but denied pointing a gun at her.

Akel said Ventress has several prior felony convictions and because of that, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $25,000 bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault. A $10,000 bond was set for McDowell on the same allegation and both were ordered to have no contact with the victim. They were told to come back to court July 22.
