Pine Bluff Mayor Vivian Flowers has formed a Mayor’s Transition Advisory Board with several committees to help her move the city forward, and one of those committees met Monday night for a town hall meeting at City Council chambers.

Representatives from the Pine Bluff Police Department, Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services, as well as members of the community were on hand for a Public Safety Committee meeting.

Several topics were discussed to include a public safety tax that will never expire, and how it is used. Flowers spoke with Deltaplex News about that tax.

Pine Bluff City Councilmember Bruce Lockett spoke about the tax saying it doesn’t have as much bite as it did in the beginning due to a decline in population.

A member of the community made a comment during the meeting saying there are always meetings, but eventually meetings need to end and a plan needs to be put into action. Flowers spoke about that comment.

Flowers also noted that one reason it is hard to get things going in Pine Bluff is that there is no Standard Operating Procedures in place for many city government offices for elected officials to follow when needs arise.
