A Pine Bluff Police Officer was critically injured when the police car the officer was driving collided with a school bus Monday morning on Dollarway Road.

Police Lt. David DeFoor said the officer, who was not identified, was trapped in the vehicle and emergency personnel had to extricate him.

According to a post on social media, the officer’s car caught fire and a citizen with a fire extinguisher stopped and put the fire out. Other people also stopped and cut the air bags in the vehicle so the officer could breathe.

Traffic on Dollarway Road was blocked in both directions while police and wreckers cleared the roadway.
