A 25-year-old man was found dead following a Sunday morning shooting at Regional Park.

Pine Bluff police responded to a reported shooting at the park just after 1 a.m., according to a news release. It was reported a group of people directed the officers to an area near the waterfront, where the officers located a man lying in the roadway.

The man was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of the Jefferson County coroner’s office, according to police. The victim has not been identified, pending next of kin, and his body will be sent to the state Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.

This is the 14th homicide in Pine Bluff this year and second this month.

Witnesses told police a large group gathered in the park when gunshots were fired in the group. Two other people were wounded by gunshots, but their injuries are reported as non-life threatening, police say.

The homicide and circumstances leading to it were in the early stages of the investigation as of 3:38 a.m. today. No suspect information is available.
