Before the Pine Bluff City Council held their first meeting of the month Monday, the new Interim Police and Fire Chiefs were sworn in by Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney.
Interim Fire Chief Randy Compton will replace former Chief Shauwn Howell who retired and Interim Police Chief Shirley Warrior will replace former Chief Denise Richardson who was fired by Mayor Vivian Flowers.
After the meeting, Warrior was asked how she felt and what her first action as Chief would be.
When the meeting started, an ordinance establishing a definition for drag racing and establishing penalties for violating it was approved without dissent.
That ordinance, sponsored by Council Member Steven Mays, provides for a penalty of $300 for a first-offense conviction, with the fine increasing to $500 for a second conviction and $1,000 for a third and subsequent conviction. People charged with this offense could also be charged with additional offenses such as reckless driving.
A resolution appointing Travis Mosler to fill a vacancy on the Civic Auditorium Commission was also approved. His term will expire March 31 ,2032.
