A new ordinance that will prevent smoke and vape shops from doing business in certain locations in Pine Bluff passed unanimously at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
The ordinance sponsored by Councilmember William Fells was co-sponsored by Councilmembers Lanette Frazier, Yvonne Denton, and LaTisha Brunson.
Fells spoke with Deltaplex News to share exactly what the new ordinance will do.
A second ordinance sponsored by Fells passed with an unanimous vote as well. This ordinance will give code enforcement more authority to remove broken down vehicles from abandoned properties. Fells also spoke on this matter.
Four additional resolutions passed in the meeting to include a resolution to create a Group Violence Intervention (GVI) Case Manager and Creditable Manager position. This resolution will remove three uniformed police officer positions within the Pine Bluff Police Department, and will move them to non-uniformed positions.
The second resolution will urge the Mayor to appoint new members to the zip code study committee created to study the effects of a shared 71602 zip code with the City of White Hall.
The third resolution passed authorizes a contract with 1911 Construction Company for work on the Grant Street Multi-Trail Project.
The final resolution appointed Dr. Clarence Holman, Jimmy Stocker, Alethea Boler, Fred Woods, and Kenneth Cole to the Veteran’s Internment Committee for Graceland/Bellwood Cemetery.
A resolution providing an audit of the financial affairs of the city street department and a resolution directing municipal government to take steps to verify and demark the boundaries of the city were tabled.
