Part of the downtown Pine Bluff revitalization plan includes the Delta Rhythm and Bayous Cultural District that will be host the Blues and Wellness Plaza in the area of Third Street and Main Street. If you drive down either of those streets you will see ongoing construction for the Plaza.
Pine Bluff Advertising and Promotion Commission Director Sheri Storie spoke with Deltaplex News recently to discuss the Plaza and more.
Storie shared the purpose of the Cultural District.
Storie said that cities with similar history as Pine Bluff, such as Clarksdale, Mississippi, have seen increases in tourism dollars after developing their own cultural districts. Having things for people to do that are outdoors has been a key for those cities.
Live music is going to be a big focus for the area according to Storie.
The first event in the Blues and Wellness Plaza is scheduled for June 13 as part of Pine Bluff’s Juneteenth celebrations.
