1936-2024
Wilma Mellie Ruth Garrett Brown was born February 7, 1936, in DeWitt, Arkansas to Rex and Katie Garrett. She died at her home in DeWitt on November 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
She moved to California in 1956 with her brother and his family. There she met the love of her life, Alvie Brown, and they were married September 29, 1956. They were married for 41 years and to this union was born one daughter, Melanie.
Mellie moved back to DeWitt with her family in April 1983 and lived there until her death.
She was a member of the Church of the Firstborn. She loved helping take of the sick, and taking care of her nieces and nephews and their families. Mellie loved quilting, shopping, and spending time with her family. She was Aunt Mellie or Nannie to everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, and five sisters.
Mellie is survived by her daughter Melanie Brown and a host of other family and friends. She was greatly adored and loved by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 13 at Essex Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 November 14 the Church of the Firstborn with burial in Forks LaGrue Cemetery.
