1948-2025
Susan Hutchison (Lusby Scruggs Wells) Giron, MSW, LCSW, 77, of Little Rock, AR, departed this life on March 1, 2025 after valiantly fighting many health complications. A believer in reincarnation, she is undoubtedly planning her return already.
Born on February 24, 1948, to Dr. E. L. “Hutch” and Sharlotte (Nelson) Hutchison, III, of Pine Bluff, AR, Susan was an unapologetic lover of love and adventure. Pine Bluff learned it was too small to hold her when she and her neighborhood gang built an airplane out of scrap wood in 1953. Unfortunately, it did not fly but Susan persevered.
A graduate of Pine Bluff High School (1966), Susan earned her Bachelor of Science in Education, Master of Arts in Art, and Master of Social Work degrees at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder at a young age, Susan was a founder of the Manic Depressive Association of Arkansas and a lifelong advocate for mental health. Her career and interests took her from Atlanta to Alaska, Mexico to Moscow, and many other places in between.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Ronald Darryl Lusby, Jr., brother E. L. “Lee” Hutchison, IV, son-in-law David Jarratt, and her beloved dogs.
Susan is survived by her daughter Susannah Scruggs Jarratt of Maumelle and three step-grandsons, her sister Ann Hutchison Love (Don) of Wesley, AR, her sister-in-law, Catherine Curry Hutchison of Memphis, TN, four nieces and a nephew and their families.
The family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Believing that no child should ever go hungry Susan requested that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Maumelle Backpack Ministry.
