1939-2025
Patsy Ann Spears, 85 of New Edinburg, died Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at her daughter’s home. She was born on May 14, 1939 in New Edinburg, Arkansas to the late Oscar D. Kee and Peggy Harris Kee. Patsy was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in New Edinburg.
A tribute to Patsy Ann: Our Mammaw was the kindest person we have ever known. She loved her family, deep-fried Southern food, her dusty front yard flowers, a good western, the weekly crossword, Christmas gifts, soft blankets, Conway Twitty, gospel music, and God. When we were children, we visited her every day, brought her flowers, picked fields full of vegetables with her, read her books, watched her soap operas, played hymns on her piano, sang off-key beside her in church, drank her never-ending sweet iced tea, and learned how to cook and preserve the food she grew. We knew that her home was our home. We cherish the love she gave us and know that many of the better things about ourselves are because of what we learned from watching her. She was a godly woman, she honored the Lord in everything she did, and she was our model for what a grandmother and a good person should be. Our biggest regret is that our children didn’t know her the way she was meant to be known. She suffered so much at the end of her life, and while we know that she is rejoicing in Heaven, we still cannot bring ourselves not to miss having her in this world.
Preceded her in death are: her parents, her husband, Carroll Spears, one son, Gary Spears, one brother, Oscar Kee, and one sister, Elizabeth Curry.
She is survived by: one daughter, Connie (Major) McClellan of New Edinburg, six grandchildren, Alaina (Derrick) Sims of New Zealand, Kristen (Gordon) of Star City, Stephen (Brooklyn) McClellan of Fordyce, Josh (Erika) Spears of New Edinburg, Blake (Amber) Spears of Warren, and Jared Spears of New Edinburg, fourteen great grandchildren: Iden and Isla Sims, Gavin, KyleeAnne and Taylor White, Avery and Ashlyn Skelton, Gabriel McClellan, and Nathan, Ryan, Emma, Paysen, Bailey, and Natalie Spears, and one daughter-in-law, Melody Spears of New Edinburg.
