Owen Glover “O. G.” Monk, age 96, of Pine Bluff went home to be the Lord on Monday, January 27, 2025.
Born December 14, 1928 at Pine Bluff, he was the son of the late Fred Lee Monk and Mary Virginia Owen Monk. He was a lifelong resident of Pine Bluff and graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1946. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist College (now OBU) in 1950.
He served in the United States Army on active duty from May 22,1950 until September 12, 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He served in Japan and Korea and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service. He resigned his commission as Captain in 1959.
Mr. Monk then returned to Pine Bluff where he worked for National Bank of Commerce (later Worthen Bank) from 1950 until 1993, retiring as an assistant vice-president.
A longtime member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Pine Bluff Optimist Club for many years.
On October 8, 1953, he married Dorothy Ione Nolan at Pine Bluff, She preceded him in death on February 14, 2011. Also predeceasing him are siblings, Freddie Mae Sullivan and Jane Alexander.
Survivors include his children, Leslie Monk Downey of Fayetteville, Jerry Owen Monk of Pine Bluff, Gwyn Alan Monk (Diwana) of Carrollton, TX, and Melinda Monk Randle (Derek) of Miami, OK; a sister, Annie McClain of Pine Bluff; two brothers, Raymond “Buddy” Monk of Pine Bluff and Donald Monk of Russellville; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and special friend, Mary Lou Brewer.
Visitation will be Friday, January 31, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Bryan Bolton and Brother Dalton Adger officiating. Interment with Military Funeral Honors will be at Good Faith Cemetery.
