Mr. Thomas Ray Smith, 95
1929-2024

Thomas Ray Smith, 95, passed away December 9, 2024. He was born February 19, 1929 in DeWitt to Thomas Leonard and Violet Louise (Wegert) Smith.

Thomas Ray graduated from DeWitt High School as Salutatorian in May 1947. He was a member of the DHS band and lettered in football and basketball. His senior year, he attended classes in the mornings and worked in the afternoons at First National Bank. He was employed by the bank for 44 years and retired in 1992 as senior vice president in the loan department.

Thomas Ray served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, being stationed in Denver, CO and Tokyo, Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1953 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Thomas Ray married Faye DeVore in 1954. They had one son, Thomas Leonard Smith. His beloved wife, Faye, passed away in January of 1989 at the age of 58.

He is survived by his son Tommy, and his wife, Woody, granddaughter Carrie Faye Smith Johnson, and two great grandsons Cal and Cam Johnson. He is also survived by his brother Richard L. Smith and sister Carolyn Sue Nelson, and numerous nieces and nephews

Thomas Ray was preceded in death by his brother Roger L. Smith and sisters Joyce Marie Steward and Mary Louise Lehmann.

Thomas Ray was active in DeWitt community affairs as a former president of the DeWitt Jaycees, VP of Lion's Club, American Legion, Board of Directors of DeWitt Housing Authority, and Arkansas Jr. Bankers Association. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Razorback fan. He specialized in turkey, duck, archery deer hunting and catfish and crappie fishing. He passed his love of the outdoors and sports to his son, who enjoyed countless hours of sharing these passions with his wonderful Dad.
