Mary Evelyn Goggans, 77
1947-2024

Mary Evelyn Goggans, affectionately known as Nana, was born on July 3, 1947, in Rowell, Arkansas, to her loving parents Carl Floyd and Maysel Johnston Floyd. Evelyn passed away on December 8, 2024, at the age of 77, in Star City, Arkansas.

Evelyn graduated top of her class from Woodlawn High School in 1965. She later moved to Star City when she married Larry Ray Goggans in 1967. Her professional life included roles as an office manager for Levi Strauss, Smith's of Star City, and State Farm. Later, in partnership with her sister Ann, she opened and managed "Ann & Evelyn's" for several years before retiring.

A devoted Christian, Evelyn served as a youth teacher in her early years at First Baptist Church of Star City, where she was a member for over 50 years. Her family was her lifelong passion, her children and grandchildren being her greatest joy. Evelyn was an avid reader and crafter who loved to tell stories, laugh, and share joyous moments with her family and friends. Her love for pastries and a good cup of coffee was also known to all. Evelyn was also an exceptional cook. Her family continues to cherish and cook her best recipes today, keeping her legacy alive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Ray Goggans, and sister, Martha Ann Floyd Ratterree.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Greg Goggans and his wife Michelle of Cave Springs, AR, and daughter, Cindy Luker and her husband David of Star City. She also leaves behind her sisters Joyce Floyd of Star City, and Barbara Patrick and her husband Bill of Rowell. Evelyn's beloved grandchildren, Brianna Luker Mann and her husband Taylor, Kaylea Luker, Lindsey Luker, Landon Luker, Anthony Goggans and his wife Megan, Jonathan Goggans, and Mary Ella Goggans, continue her legacy.

A service to honor Evelyn's life will be held at First Baptist Church of Star City on Thursday at 10:00 AM. There will be no formal visitation. She will be laid to rest at Best Cemetery in Star City. Pallbearers will include Anthony Goggans, Jonathan Goggans, Landon Luker, Taylor Mann, Sammy Doss, Joey Ratterree, and Clay Patrick.
