1928-2024
Lee Ora Sawyer, age 96, of Pine Bluff, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2024. She was born on August 11, 1928 in Carbon, Texas. She graduated from Watson Chapel High School and chose the honorable profession of homemaker.
Mrs. Sawyer was an outstanding cook, precise seamstress, and a hardworking gardener and canner. She cared for her children with much love and was always there when they needed her, whether it was night or day. A lover of nature, she was an avid birdwatcher with many feeders in her backyard. She loved cats, especially her faithful companion to the end, Tommy.
A charter member of Oak Park Free Will Baptist Church, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and Children’s Church. Singing in the choir was her joy because she wanted to share God’s love with others. She was a prayer warrior who had compassion for others and showed this through her prayers, cards, and visits.
Lee Ora’s life was characterized by joy. The joy in her soul beamed through her beautiful smile, and she spread that joy all around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Whisenant Wooley and Maurice Wooley; her husband of 72 years, Sammie Sawyer; her daughter, Sherri Clayton; and her sisters, Gerry Watson and Dorothy Wooley.
She is survived by her son, John Sawyer (Susan); two daughters, Sandra Mobley (Solon) and Laura McFall (Norman); son-in-law, Mike Clayton; five grandchildren, Jake Sawyer, Elaine LaGrone, Ron Seale, Stephanie Hubbard, and Samuel McFall; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 27, 2024, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel, with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family extends special thanks to Hospice Home Care, especially Sarah Hill and Chaplain Lance Hickerson; and her primary caregivers, Sandra and Solon Mobley.
