James Evan Childress, 86
1938-2025

James (Jimmy) Evan Childress, 86 of New Edinburg died Thursday, March 6, 2025 at his home. He was born in New Edinburg to the late Lura Childress and Russell Childress.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tommy and Robert Childress; and one daughter, Freda Childress.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Childress of New Edinburg; four children, Angela Dickman of New Edinburg, Jeff Childress of New Edinburg, Tanya Brown and her husband Tommy of Fayetteville, GA, and Justin Childress and his wife Elizabeth of Redfield; grandchildren, Clint Childress and his wife Victoria, Evan Trivett and his wife Katie, Truston Dickman and his wife Shelly, Grace Westmoreland and her husband Matt, Austin Trivett and his wife Jenine, Sarah Bailey and her husband Justin, Abbie Erwin and her husband Lathen, Amelia Childress and Gideon Childress; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Maddie, Theo, Lincoln, Emma, Waylon, John David, and Lucy.

The family would also like to thank his wonderful caregiver, Elmerjean Fraizer for taking such good care of him. He really thought the world of her and she was always there when needed, even the middle of the night. She took such good care of Jimmy and always made him light up when she was around.

A visitation will be Monday, March 10, 2025 evening from 6PM until 8PM at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 10AM Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Hebron Church in New Edinburg with Rev. Paul Martin and Rev. Dusty Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at Hebron Cemetery near New Edinburg.
