J.L. “Jake” Freeman, 88, of Pine Bluff, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 2, 2024. He was born December 23, 1935 in Coy to Edward Leo Freeman and Edna Louise Schott Freeman.
Jake was reared and educated in Coy then left to work on the family farm. He married Betty Sue Waddle May 31, 1955 after meeting her at Ferda Pentecostal Church. Their family moved to Pine Bluff in 1967. Jake worked at Central Moloney for 31 years until his retirement. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local #1658. Jake moved to Swan Lake in 1998, where he was a member of the JDD Hunting Club, Swan Lake Community Center and the Swan Lake Volunteer Fire Department. He moved back to Pine Bluff in 2019. Jake attended Reydell Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his children, Sandra Jeffers (Wayne), Jeff Freeman (Carla) and Brenda Pledger (Dale); four grandchildren, Dewayne Jeffers (Kristy), Tammie Sneed, Micheal Jeffers and Daniel Pledger; five great grandchildren, Kayla Patton, J.R. Rogers, Jimmy Rogers, Tamara Rogers and Alex Jeffers; one great-great grandchild, Delilah Patton; and two brothers, Ray Freeman (Ruthy) and Harold Freeman (Pam).
Jake was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 69 years, Betty Sue Freeman; two daughters, Janet Freeman and Elizabeth Freeman; one brother, Perry Freeman; and one sister, Patsy Bacon.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Ralph Robinson and Son. Rev. Gene Triplett and Rev. Kevin Kelly will officiate. Burial will follow in Mulberry Cemetery at England. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at the funeral home.
