Gay McEntire, 76
1948-2024

Gay Roberts McEntire, 76, of Star City, passed away on November 26th, 2024 at her home. She was born on October 27th, 1948 to the late Bryant Roberts and Rita Baugh Roberts. She worked as a beautician until the birth of her children, at which time she became a full-time mother and homemaker. She also worked for a time for the Star City School District, but her favorite job was raising her children and caring for her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, David Roberts of Star City. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronald Lee McEntire; a sister, Judy Hardin; two children, Lorie Caldwell of San Pedro, Belize, and Amy (Phillip) Green of Star City; four grandchildren, Brittney Jackson of North Little Rock; Austin Caldwell of Star City; Ayden Green and Ashten Green of Star City; and three step-grandchildren, Danielle Green of Centerton; Carissa Rodgers of Star City; and Brandon Green of Star City. Also left to cherish her memory is her very special caregiver, Bobbie Haywood of Star City.

Known as “Nan” by all her daughters’ friends and her grandchildren, she was known for her kindness, her gentle and loving spirit, and her fantastic cooking. Whether it was a family death, sickness, or any other situation, she could be counted on to show up with a meal, or a cake or pie, or a plate of homemade rolls. She was always cooking for someone, and probably made something for half of the county during her lifetime. She was quiet and soft-spoken, and food was her way of expressing her love for others.

She loved to garden with her husband, can the food they grew, and she enjoyed sewing and shopping trips to Branson with her sister and others. She was a dedicated member of Yorktown First Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School secretary for many years, and attended faithfully for as long as her health allowed, she never sought to be the center of attention, and led by example instead. Her kindness, her gentleness, and her genuine Christian life was her testimony, and will be her legacy.

A celebration of Gay’s life will be held on Saturday, December 14th, at 2:00 p.m. at Griffin’s Funeral Service, Star City, with Bro. Robert Greene officiating. There will be no formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Yorktown First Baptist Church, PO Box 659, Star City AR; or Danny Johnson’s Philippines ministry at “Impact Ministry,” c/o Calvary Baptist Church, 612 Valley View Road, Benton AR 72019; or the Arkansas Hospice Foundation, online or at 14 Parkstone Circle, North Little Rock, AR 72116.
