Coy Delano “Dickie” Haynes, a retired United States Army infantry officer and helicopter pilot of East End, Arkansas, passed away on March 5, 2025. He was surrounded by his family and was eighty-three years old at the time of his death.
Dickie was preceded in death by his parents, W.R. "Peck" and Lorene Haynes, as well as his grandparents, Jody and Ethel Haynes, Coy and Winnie Reed, and his most loyal companion, Hey Boy, all from East End, Arkansas.
Throughout his life, Dickie served his country with distinction in the Army National Guard, where he received numerous medals and commendations for his service. His commitment to his community was equally profound. Dickie served as Vice President of the Sheridan School Board for five years, was a board member for the Grant County Savings and Loan, the Grant County and Arkansas State Fair boards, and was the President of the Arkansas Brahman Breeders Association. He also served as a Director of the National Brahman Breeders Association for several years in Texas. A proud member of the Sheridan High School class of 1959, Dickie was honored to serve as their class President and took great joy in helping with their class reunions. His leadership, generosity, and passion for service touched the lives of many.
Dickie is survived by his wife, Dr. Brenda Haynes; daughter, Stephanie Ayn Haynes; son, Marc Major Haynes (James McCormack); granddaughter, Lucy Ayn Haynes all of Little Rock, Arkansas; brother, Gene Haynes of Houston, Texas; and his beloved dogs, Precious and Hey Girl.
Funeral services will be held at East End Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 10AM on what would have been Dickie’s 84th birthday. The service will be followed by a reception in the church’s fellowship hall. Honorary pallbearers will include the Sheridan High School Class of 1959, Tim Walker, Dewayne Crenshaw, Wendell Lawson, Dr. Robert Walton, Jerry Carlton, Tyler Brown, David Crone, and Butch Campbell. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation to the Salem Cemetery in East End, and/or the East End Baptist Church food pantry.
Dickie considered it a privilege to serve others, and he will be greatly missed by all.
