1956-2025
Surrounded by the ones he loved most, Dennis Earl Carter left this world peacefully at his home in Monticello, Arkansas on April 1, 2025. His passing was quiet and full of the same love he gave so freely in life.
He was a man of quiet strength, deep kindness, and unwavering love for his family. He cared deeply for his wife, Beverly, who stood by him till the end with strength and grace. He was a proud father and grandfather to a family who cherished him beyond words.
A true craftsman at heart, Dennis spent most of his life working in carpentry. He loved working with wood – building, fixing, creating – and never fully realized how naturally gifted he was. What came naturally to him was nothing short of art to everyone else.
He had a deep love for horses and especially looked forward to the Chuckwagon races in Clinton, AR. He was an old cowboy through and through - worn boots, strong hands, and a heart bigger than Texas. He lived with the kind of quiet integrity that is harder and harder to find.
He believed the world was hard enough, so you might as well live every day laughing and smiling – and he made it his mission to help everyone around him do just that. Fair to his core, Dennis always looked out for those around him, often putting others first without a second thought. His generosity wasn’t loud, but rather steady, constant, and deeply felt.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Beverly, his children, grandchildren, and all who were lucky enough to be loved by him. His hands built countless things throughout his life, but it was his heart that built a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments that will live on.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Harrison Brown of Star City, and his father, Preston Earl Carter of Monticello.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Carter of Monticello; his sons, Johnny Carter and wife Juana of Monticello, Shannon Carter of Monticello, Cody Cheshire and wife Kaylei of Wilmar, and Clay Cheshire and wife Becca of Monticello; and his daughter, Dennia Beard and husband Marcus of Little Rock. He was the proud grandfather of Hunter Carter, Hayden Carter, Dalton Pharr, Braydon Pharr, River Carter, Rohen Carter, and Madeline Cheshire, all of Monticello; Anni Cheshire of Wilmar; and Sadie Beard and Charlotte Beard of Little Rock. He is also survived by
his siblings: Wanda St. John of Star City, Larry Carter of Monticello, Carl Carter of
Higdon, Debbie Bennett and her husband Tony of Warren, and Ellen Carter of Star
City.
He leaves behind a life built not just with hands, but with heart. His legacy of love,
laughter, and quiet strength will live on in all who knew him.
