Bert Edward Montgomery. 70
1954-2024

Pastor Bert Edward Montgomery,70, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 20, 2024. He was born on November 27, 1954, to James Everett and Virginia Louise (Miller) Montgomery in their home in Wichita, Kansas. Bert was the 8th out of 10 children.

He married the love of his life, Wilma Montgomery on May 26, 1973. They were blessed with two children, Catherine and Stephen. Bert was a devoted family man who greatly loved being a dad and later a grandpa.

From his youth Bert was a hard worker, mowing lawns as a teenager then working at Specialty Mill Works, International Cold Storage, and Cessna Aircraft before working at Boeing for almost 25 years. In addition to his job, he would usually be working on at least one major building or remodeling project.

Bert became a Christian as a teen and loved serving the Lord. He preferred serving behind the scenes, often working on building and maintaining church buildings and grounds. God had other plans and called him into the ministry. He served in various roles at Revival Way Mission Church, where his mother was the pastor, until he retired from Boeing in 2005. During this time, Bert got involved in Full Gospel Christian Association (FGCA), eventually becoming bishop. Once he left Boeing, he became the pastor of Victory Chapel in Peace Valley, Missouri. After a few years, God called Bert and Wilma to relocate to Sheridan, Arkansas to pastor the FGCA Campground Church and lead FGCA from Sheridan.

Bert loved to sing about the Lord and discuss the Bible. He cared deeply about people and his greatest joy was seeing them come to salvation and living for the Lord.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Virginia Montgomery, siblings Mary Rivard, Mildred Plumlee, and David Montgomery.

He is survived by his loving wife Wilma Montgomery of 51 years of Sheridan, AR, children Catherine Montgomery of Charlotte, NC, Stephen (Heather) Montgomery of Wichita, KS, grandchildren Courtney (William) Greer of Pasco, WA, Christopher Montgomery, Caitlyn Montgomery, and Carly Montgomery of Wichita, KS, siblings Loucille Walden of Sheridan, AR, Carolyn Fisher of Wichita, KS, Margaret Fisher of Sheridan AR, Faye Fisher of Burrton, KS, Susie (Gary) Crane and Fred Montgomery of Wichita, KS. Bert will be missed by all that knew him and the many whose lives he impacted including nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a host of dear friends.

Visitation service will be 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday December 23, 2024, at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan.

Funeral and Internment services will be held at a later date in Wichita, Kansas.
