As Jefferson County employees enter their second month without a paycheck, the stress is getting to those employees, including dispatchers who work for MECA (Metropolitan Emergency Communications Association).
Karen Blevins, who heads the county Office of Emergency Management which includes MECA was able to reach out to the Arkansas State Police and get some of their dispatchers to help but said on the Oldies 1013 Morning Show that the situation was “really taxing on all her people.”
Morning Show host Greg Horne asked Blevins how many employees have stayed despite not getting paid and how many have left.
Horne told Blevins that the position of a 911 operator was “stressful to start with.”
She said MECA handles about 200,000 calls a year between the 911 calls and the non-emergency calls.
Horne also asked her what her people think about the budget impasse between the quorum court, the count judge and other elected officials.
