Jefferson County OEM to host Skywarn Storm Spotter class

Dennis Cavanaugh, Warning Coordination Meteorologist from the National Weather Service(NWS) in Little Rock, will be teaching a Skywarn® Storm Spotter class on April 29, 2025.

The class will be held at the White Hall Fire Department, 5 Hospitality Dr, White Hall, AR 71602 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  

NWS encourages anyone with an interest in public service to join the Skywarn® program. Skywarn® is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) severe weather spotting program with nearly 290,000 trained volunteers nationwide.

Volunteers include police and fire personnel, dispatchers, EMS workers, public utility workers and other concerned private citizens. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, schools, churches, and nursing homes or who have a responsibility for protecting others are encouraged to become a spotter. You will learn:

Fundamentals of storm structure

Identifying potential severe weather features

Information to report

How to report information

Basic severe weather safety
