Four units at an apartment complex were heavily damaged and four others received minor smoke and water damage after a fire at Piney Wood Apartments at 2105 Woodgate Drive on Tuesday.
According to a press release, firefighters responded to the fire at 6:39 p.m. and when they arrived reported flames were showing from a bottom floor apartment and rapidly spreading to the top floor.
There were reports of trapped residents and firefighters began search and rescue operations immediately until the building was cleared of occupants.
The fire was contained to one building of the complex with the fire department reporting major damage to the building and a major loss to the contents of the apartments.
The report indicated one firefighter was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
