
As early voting continues at the Jefferson County Courthouse to extend the five-eights cent Go Forward Pine Bluff sales tax for another seven years, Fire and Emergency Services Chief Shauwn Howell on Friday focused on the second tax proposal on the ballot, a three-eights cent permanent tax dedicated to public safety.
Appearing on the Oldies 1013 morning show, Howell said he was for that tax.
Morning show host Greg Horne told Howell that there has been talk recently about the need for a new fire department training center and asked about that.
Some of those funds will also go toward salaries and Howell said that is important, telling Horne that his department has lost six people so far this year, two who left and went to another fire department.
On those that left, Howell said about half were because of retirements but the other half were because people went to other departments of chose different career paths)
