A Bearden woman is dead after being struck by a train Thursday afternoon.

According to law enforcement sources the Bearden Police Department was alerted by Union Pacific of a tragic incident involving a train and a pedestrian on Olive Street near the railroad crossing at 1:59 p.m.

Bearden Police Chief Nathan Greeley reports that 29-year-old Alexis Anderson of Bearden was walking down the tracks as a train approached. According to a statement from the train’s engineer and conductor, they immediately sounded the horn multiple times, engaged the brakes, and initiated an emergency stop.

Despite their efforts, Anderson did not move off the tracks, and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita County Coroner.

This incident is currently under investigation, and Union Pacific officials are en route from Shreveport to assist with further analysis, including a review of video footage.
