Arkansas National Guard Mobilizes to Support Florida Ahead of Hurricane Milton

The Arkansas National Guard is deploying at least 100 Guardsmen to Florida in preparation for Hurricane Milton, expected to make landfall early Thursday morning.

According to a release from the Arkansas National Guard, these Guardsmen will be stationed in Florida for 17 days to support the Florida National Guard in managing anticipated damage from the hurricane. They will report on Wednesday for processing, equipment pickup, and vehicle inspections, with departure scheduled for Friday.

The total duration includes travel time to and from Florida. While in Florida, the Guardsmen will be involved in security, traffic control, and distribution of essential supplies but may be reassigned by the Florida National Guard if other needs arise.

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders endorsed the mission, expressing gratitude to the 100 Arkansas Guardsmen for their service.

“Thank you to the selfless and brave 100 Arkansas Guardsmen, some of our state’s finest, on their way to Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton,” Governor Sanders said. “We are one nation under God, and we will provide assistance when our friends and neighbors need it.”

She emphasized the importance of national solidarity and assistance in times of need. Brigadier General Chad Bridges highlighted the pride and willingness of the Soldiers and Airmen to serve, noting the recent challenges faced by Florida following Hurricane Helene and the impending impact of Hurricane Milton.

“Serving our state and nation is what Guard members do,” Brig. Gen Chad Bridges said. “Our Soldiers and Airmen are proud when they have an opportunity to serve and make a positive difference. The citizens of Florida need assistance after Hurricane Helene and now Milton, and Arkansas Guard members are eager and willing to help.”
