The AAA Arkansas Weekend Gas Watch reports that the average gas price in Arkansas is currently $2.80 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel. This represents an increase of one cent from last week but a decrease of 41 cents compared to the same day last year.
According to AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria, rising fuel demand as more residents travel is contributing to slight upward pressure on prices, though overall savings are being observed due to lower crude oil prices.
“Fuel demand is starting to increase as more Arkansans take the road, which is putting some upward pressure on prices,” Chabarria. “However, drivers are still seeing decent savings at the pump compared to this time last year, thanks in large part to lower crude oil prices.”
Among the metropolitan areas in Arkansas, Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers has the highest average price at $2.84 per gallon, while the lowest can be found in Hot Springs at $2.72 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.17, unchanged from the previous week, and 49 cents lower than last year at the same time.
With current weather conditions being more favorable and travel activity increasing, a slight rise in gas prices is anticipated.
The price of crude oil, a significant factor in fuel costs, is $62 per barrel, down from $82, indicating a $20 decrease.
