Five Jefferson County men were arrested in the early morning hours Saturday after they allegedly pointed guns at two men going home from work.

The five were identified as Jamarus Brown, 26, Ashawn Henry, 21, Frederick Hunter, 20, Demarius Mallett Jr. 20, and Javonte Shelton, 20, Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter said during a court hearing Monday.

Reading from an affidavit by Detective Dante Nicholson, Hunter said an officer responded to the gas station at Harding Avenue and Main Street where the caller reported that he was taking a co-worker home and when they reached the area of 21st Avenue and Georgia Street weapons were pointed at them.

Hunter said the victim drove back to the area and made a point to look at each of the men.

A weapon that was found within arm’s length of where Brown was found hiding had a switch on it making it capable of firing multiple times, Hunter said, adding that Brown has two pending felony cases, one for three counts of aggravated assault the other for terroristic threatening.

When Brown was taken to the jail, he initially gave police the name of his brother.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $75,000 cash only bond for Brown after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault and possession of a machine gun.

A bond of $50,000 secured was set for each of the other four men on probable cause of aggravated assault and all five men were told to come back to court Aug. 19.
