A $5,000 bond was set Monday for a Jefferson County man accused of attempting to steal more than $700 worth of items from Walmart Saturday.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Gary Hetzler, 41, with theft of property.
Reading from an affidavit by Detective Dante Nicholson, Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter said on Saturday, police Sgt. Shy was working off-duty at Walmart when she was notified by a loss prevention officer that a white male later identified as Hetzler was seen on video pulling items off the shelf and putting them in a shopping cart.
Hunter said Hetzler is currently on probation in Saline County. He was told to come back to court Aug. 19
