An Hispanic man who was arrested Sunday after allegedly beating his girlfriend will have to post a $35,000 bond to be released from the detention center after a court hearing Wednesday.
Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney originally set a $25,000 bond for Miguel Martinez, 28, after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with second-degree domestic battery,
However, after Martinez refused to follow instructions and leave the room, Kearney increased the bond to $35,000.
Reading from an affidavit by White Hall Police Investigator Charles Treadway, Deputy Prosecutor Shana Alexander explained the allegation against Martinez.
Alexander said White Hall officers reported seeing visible abrasions on both sides of the victim’s face, there was bruising around the eye and the skin around it indicated that she had been hit.
In the affidavit, Treadway reported that emergency medical personnel responded to the scene to check out the victim and indicated she had a broken shoulder and was taken to the hospital.
Martinez was ordered to have no contact with the victim and told to come back to court Aug. 23.
