The Drew County Quorum Court has adopted a new solid waste ordinance that will include some changes for commercial customers.

The rates for residential customers will stay the same.

The newspaper reported that the ordinance also provides that the owner of a property is responsible for making sure that solid waste fees are paid. If they have tenants, solid waste fees can be added to the rent but at the end of the day, it is the responsibility of the property owner to pay the bill.

Landfill fees were also increased to $65 per ton of solid waste if delivered by Dew County commercial firms. Non-county residents and commercial customers will pay $80- per ton. Fees for Drew County residents dumping solid waste will not change.

There will also be a 10 percent late fee for any bills not paid on time.
