Former UAPB Chancellor Dr. Laurence B. Alexander and his wife, Veronica, have created a new endowed scholarship at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) to support students pursuing degrees in Journalism and Education. The $25,000 fund, the “Laurence and Veronica Alexander Endowment for Excellence in Multimedia Communication,” serves as a creative opportunity to offer support to a new generation of student journalists and educators.

The Endowment provides assistance for educational-related expenses in the UAPB Department of Multimedia Communication, including curriculum upgrades, traditional and non-traditional student and faculty support, staff development, professional growth, and recruitment incentives.

According to UAPB Vice Chancellor for Advancement George Cotton, Sr., the Alexander gift represents a first for him as a development officer. “It must be said that what Dr. Alexander and Veronica did in this instance isn’t typical. You simply don’t have Chancellors leave an institution and then call back to establish an endowment”, Cotton said. He added that it speaks volumes about the Alexanders and their desire to make a difference.
