At its most recent meeting, the Cleveland County Quorum Court rejected an ordinance that would have funded a new position with the prosecutor’s office.
According to the Cleveland County Herald, the ordinance received a motion for approval but died for lack of a second.
The ordinance would have appropriated $$15,602.26 from non-appropriated funds in county general to pay the county-s share of the salary of a staff person to file criminal cases for Cleveland, Dallas and Calhoun Counties, which are all part of the 13th Judicial District.
The district also includes Columbia, Ouachita and Union Counties but Cleveland, Calhoun and Dallas Counties share a prosecutor because of their low populations.
