The City of Rison has decided against installing speed bumps on a heavily traveled street and is looking at other ways to slow down traffic.
According to the Cleveland County Herald, Rison Mayor Charles Roberts has asked the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department and the Arkansas State Police to increase speed patrols in town, particularly on Oak Street which is often used to access the Unionville Road from Magnolia Street.
The City of Rison does not have a police department but does have a contract with the sheriff’s office to provide two deputies for the city.
At a public hearing, various suggestions were made to deal with traffic speeding through town, including police radar checks at various locations.
The Mayor said construction will start soon on installing new water lines in town and the heavy machinery should help to slow traffic down.
