UAPB Softball: Golden Lions Sweep Rust College in Non-Conference Doubleheader
GAME 1 | UAPB 12, Rust 1
PINE BLUFF, Arkansas —Sophomore Kayla Adams collected three extra base hits to help lead the UAPB Lady Lions past the Rust Bearcats 12-1 on Tuesday at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex.
Sophomore Heidi Price got the win for UAPB. The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out four.
Sophomore Kayla Addams three extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-3 day, and included three doubles and three RBI. Freshman Angelina Rivas compiled a standout effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI. Junior Danika Bryant also chipped in for the Lady Lions, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a triple and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Lions got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. UAPB’s offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Adams.
The Lady Lions then held the Bearcats scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. UAPB scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of freshman Angelina , scoring junior Ariana Gonzalez and Adams, which brought the Lady Lions lead to 9-0.
Rust narrowed UAPB’s lead to 9-1 before the Lady Lions stretched the advantage to 12-1 in the third inning. The score remained 12-1 for the rest of the game, as UAPB coasted to the win.

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas —Senior Kaitlyn Neely racked up four RBIs to help propel the UAPB Lady Lions past the Rust Bearcats 22-2 on Tuesday.
Junior Danika got the win for UAPB. The right-hander went 1.2 innings, giving up one run without giving up a hit, allowing six walks and striking out three. Sophomore Heidi also pitched well, going 1.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.
Junior Ariana Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a double in addition to her four RBIs for the Lady Lions. Freshman Chasney Cooper put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk and three RBI. Junior Lyric Perry also contributed for UAPB, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Lions got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. UAPB scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of junior Ariana Gonzalez.
The Lady Lions then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the second inning after the Bearcats cut it to 3-1. The UAPB offense exploded for eight runs, highlighted by a two-run off the bat of junior Naiyestlie Ware and a two-run double from Gonzalez , which brought the score to 11-1 in favor of the Lady Lions.
UAPB kept Rust scoreless before building their lead to 17-1 the following inning. The Lady Lions bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a three-run triple off the bat of Cooper.
The Bearcats gained ground, closing the gap to 17-2 until UAPB added some insurance in the fourth. The Lady Lions scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Neely, bringing the UAPB advantage to 22-2. The score remained 22-2 for the rest of the game, as the Lady Lions coasted to the win.
