UAPB FOOTBALL: Alonzo Hampton Announces Pierre Ingram as Wide Receivers Coach
PINE BLUFF, AR. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff head football coach Alonzo Hampton has announced Monday the hiring of Pierre Ingram as the new wide receivers coach. Ingram has served as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for the Fujitsu Frontiers, a professional American football team in Japan’s X-League, for the past ten years (2015-2025). During his tenure, Ingram has achieved significant success, leading the Frontiers to become one of the most successful teams in Japan by winning seven championships over the course of his ten-year coaching career in the X-League.
Before joining the Frontiers, Ingram was already an accomplished coach, known for consistently leading his teams to be top contenders in their respective leagues. In the spring of 2015, he worked as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to this role, Ingram was the run game coordinator and running backs coach at Cal from 2013 to 2014. During his time there, Ingram played a significant role in the emergence of Daniel Lasco, who became the Golden Bears’ first rusher to gain over 1,000 yards since Isi Sofele in 2011. Lasco amassed a total of 1,115 rushing yards on 210 carries, scoring 14 total touchdowns, with 12 rushing touchdowns that ranked ninth on Cal’s all-time single-season list.
Under Ingram’s leadership, Cal improved its rushing offense by 23 spots, climbing to No. 84 in his second season. Before arriving in Berkeley, Ingram was the running backs coach at Louisiana Tech University from 2010 to 2012. In his final season there, Louisiana Tech posted a 9-3 record and led the nation in scoring offense and total offense, averaging 51.5 points and 577.92 yards per game. Ingram was recognized as the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Recruiter of the Year by ESPN.com. He coached running back Kenneth Dixon, who was named the WAC Freshman of the Year and earned Freshman All-American honors after breaking NCAA freshman records for rushing touchdowns (27), total touchdowns (28), and points (168). Dixon led the nation in scoring, averaging 14 points per game and totaling 1,194 rushing yards on 200 carries.
Ingram began his coaching career after winning the 2009 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) national championship at Villanova, where he served as a tight ends coach. Prior to the championship season at Villanova, he was the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at East Texas A&M University in the spring of 2009. Before that, Ingram was the assistant wide receivers coach at Cortland State for two seasons, where he helped the team achieve a combined 20-5 record. The 2007 team won the ECAC Division III Northeast Bowl, while the 2008 team reached the NCAA Division III quarterfinals for the first time in school history.
Ingram is a 2006 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts. He was a four-year letter winner as a wide receiver in football and received the team’s Most Dependable Receiver Award in his senior season when the Blue Raiders played in the Motor City Bowl.
