One man was killed and a second injured in a two-vehicle accident in Ouachita County Monday.
According to a preliminary report, James D. Cannedy, 69, of Bearden was a passenger in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jimmy L. Williams, 78, also of Bearden that was southbound on U.S. Highway 79, north of Arkansas Highway 9 at 10:30 a.m.
The vehicle was struck from behind by a 2018 Ram 2500 that was also southbound, causing the Chevrolet to run off the roadway on the left side and strike several trees.
Cannady was killed and Williams was injured and taken to a hospital in Shreveport, La.
The death was the 523rd so far this year on the state’s highways.
