Thanks to two loans from Arkansas Natural Resources, the City of Rison will be able to take advantage of a $1.5 million grant to replace some of the oldest water lines in the city.

According to the Cleveland County Herald, Rison will receive a $450,595.50 loan, which they will have to repay, and a $1.3 million loan, which is forgivable.

That money will be combined with the $1.5 million the city already has and establish a $3.3 million budget for the project.

Mayor Charles Roberts said there is a 30-day waiting period before the loans are activated but he is getting contractors together to begin work as soon as possible since the original $1.5 million grant requires the city to have work on the water lines completed by December 2026.
