A Dumas man was killed Friday when he was hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle on U.S. Highway 65 north of Dumas.

According to a preliminary report, Jeremy Gilmore, 45, attempted to cross the southbound lanes of traffic when he was struck by a 2007 Dodge that was southbound at the time. According to the report, Gilmore was hit by the left front of the vehicle which traveled a short distance before stopping in the center turn lane.

Gilmore was taken to the Dumas hospital where he died.

The accident was reported at 6:50 p.m. and the death was the 483rd so far this year on the state’s highways.
