Former Watson Chapel star Tink Hence was chosen for his second MLB Futures Game but decided to turn down the invitation as he tries to get back to his early season form for a second half run by the Springfield Cardinals. Hence has exited early in his last two starts, the second coming on June 23rd, when he had back tightness. He also exited a game early in Corpus Christi. Hence’s teammate in Springfield, Quin Matthews, was also chosen for the game at Globe Life Field. Matthews pitched a scoreless inning, giving up only one hit with two strikeouts. The Cardinals lead the second half standings after winning the first half. They return to action this Friday in Amarillo. Hence is not scheduled to pitch in the Natural State again this season, as the Cardinals are done with road trips to Little Rock and Northwest Arkansas
