Council member Frazier joins MLK Commission on anti-bullying campaign

City Council Member Lanette R. Frazier of Ward 3 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas proudly announces her partnership with the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission to escort the Pine Bluff Anti-Bullying Campaign to the nation’s capital.

This collaborative effort aims to address the pressing issue of bullying through education and awareness. Frazier, who was bullied as a youth knows first hand how vital it is to have support during those challenging times. Therefore, Frazier wholeheartedly supports the success of these anti-bullying efforts.

Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission has been taking a stance on bullying throughout the state. As a key volunteer, City Council Member Frazier has participated in and taught sessions during many of the commission’s programs.

DuShun Scarbrough, Executive Director at Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission developed an anti-bullying task force in the Pine Bluff School District in September 2023 during the Nonviolence Youth Summit at Pine Bluff High School.

Scarbrough and his team along with City Council Member Frazier has met quarterly with the anti-bully task force to give updates.

As part of this initiative, Pine Bluff High School students will create a documentary to amplify the message of the Anti-Bullying Campaign. This documentary will serve as a powerful tool to not only educate students in various school districts but also inspire change on a broader scale, reaching audiences worldwide.

Council Member Frazier expresses her gratitude for the opportunity to, for the first time ever, take students from Pine Bluff High School to Washington, DC and the White House to champion such a worthy cause. She recognizes the prevalence of bullying in today’s society and is committed to taking proactive steps to combat it.

“This is a historic moment for Pine Bluff,” says Council Member Frazier. “We are privileged to partner with the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission and bring our Pine Bluff Anti-Bullying Campaign to the forefront on a national stage. Together, we will work tirelessly to enhance awareness and educate individuals about the detrimental effects of bullying.”

The trip to Washington DC and the White House underscores the dedication of Council Member Frazier and her team to advocate for positive change in their community and beyond. By empowering students to take a stand against bullying, they are laying the foundation for a more compassionate and inclusive future.
