UAPB Football Open Fall With High Energy Practice

PINE BLUFF, AR.– Reclaim and Restore The PRIDE! With anticipation mounting for the 2023 football season, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football team opened its fall camp on Friday morning, despite a condition test Thursday at Simmons Bank Field for the first time in helmets and shorts kicking off the 108th edition of Golden Lions football.

Heading into his first fall camp in the Alonzo Hampton era, the Golden Lions coaching staff was pleased with the effort and intensity of many new faces displayed on both sides of the ball during the first couple of practices as they looked to build something special at UAPB.

“It felt good to get back on the field with the players, obviously we had a lot of new guys for our first day, a lot of learning, but excited at the same time,” said Coach Hampton.

One of the major focuses is on gelling together as a unit. With a new coaching staff, the Golden Lions have a plan in place that the team will execute, despite the heat condition.

“The ultimate focus is being all on the same page,” Hampton added. “As we get through the first week and head into next week, we will have a better idea of where we’re at once we put the pads on. All I ask of them is to be present, not perfect, because if we continue to be present and show up, we’ll continue to be a better program.”

One of the most significant differences heading into fall camp compared to years past at UAPB will be opening the season days earlier than usual and facing an FBS opponent on the road against Tulsa University on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

The Golden Lions will hit the practice field Saturday at 9 a.m. CT before taking Sunday off while they continue to build as the season approaches.
