A traffic stop by an Arkansas State Trooper June 30 resulted in the arrest of a man on drug related charges.
Jamelle Jackson was taken into custody after Trooper Quincy Harris stopped a black Dodge Charger that was northbound on Interstate 530 for having a fictitious tag.
Deputy Prosecutor Brittney Akel said the car displayed a paper license tag showing it expired June 21, 2023.
Akel said a search of the vehicle resulted in the trooper finding a black bag containing two additional bags of suspected marijuana and a digital scale. A check of Jackson showed that he had a suspended driver’s license and was a convicted felon.
Because he had been held in jail since June 30 without formal charges, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth released Jackson on his own recognizance after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He said he would hire his own attorney and was told to come back to court Aug. 8.
